Mike_H Posted 26 January , 2018 Share Posted 26 January , 2018 Can anybody help with information about an escape from Sennelager P.O.W. camp by a Corporal C Edge in November 1917? Edge was apparently back and serving in 3rd RWF in December 1918 when the battalion would have been in Ireland. I have no other details, no service number and a search has failed to find a medal card for him. I realise that he may have changed units and was not necessarily in RWF at the time of the escape. charlie962 Posted 26 January , 2018 Share Posted 26 January , 2018 A quick look at ICRC only gives this C Edge RWF
charlie962 Posted 26 January , 2018 Share Posted 26 January , 2018 And this MM card as a PoW for him looks good
charlie962 Posted 26 January , 2018 Share Posted 26 January , 2018 And you will find these hits at least on Find my Past Look at that PoW reference. It is a wonderfully detailed report on his captivity and escape
charlie962 Posted 26 January , 2018 Share Posted 26 January , 2018 (edited) There's similar info for Mutch, George 623 Gordon Highlanders. It was his 2nd escape attempt. The detail in the PoW files is fascinating. He too got the MM as PoW (escaper) Charlie Edited 26 January , 2018 by charlie962
charlie962 Posted 26 January , 2018 Share Posted 26 January , 2018 (edited) Mike Now that your question has drawn my attention to those fascinating files WO161/99 on Findmypast I can't wait to spend more time reading the detail. A goldmine of information on PoW conditions as well as descriptions of original capture and sometimes escape.
