IWM & Peter Jackson Restore Film Footage - They Shall Not Grow Old

Recommended Posts

Black Maria

In the 'Letter to the editor' section in my local newspaper someone wrote about the Peter Jackson film , this segment made me laugh -

' Did you spot the way , in the war films of that period , they dressed up the fighting soldiers in the foreground to make them look more

human by making them all wear abundant wigs, when in fact the plague of trench head lice precluded growing hair in the inhuman living

conditions existing on the front line.'

Just thought it is worth mentioning that my local Asda is selling the dvd for £4.99 at the moment.

Part 2 of 2

The following men are the remaining oral contributors. This information was crowdsourced, and an entry for each man can be found in the IWM's static data PDM version of its "Lives of the First World War" database.
https://livesofthefirstworldwar.iwm.org.uk

The advantage of using this to navigate to an individual is thus:

The IWM Collections website is bl**dy awful, in my opinion, and you can't find a thing. Each individual has a direct link to the specific IWM Collections page.

These men are grouped together, but as at the time of posting, the website does not work properly, and it is not possible to navigate through a listing, as used to be the case with the legacy system.

Here is the grouping

If you have a particular interest in an individual, it is best to perform a search on that individual, be it surname, regiment and service number for ORs, or full name and regiment for officers.

The captured content is not "enabled" on the person's web page, but if you perform a download, all the data is in the download *.csv file.
