First Engineer Edward WOODCOCK, Mercantile Marine, Steam Trawler "Vera" GY 134, taken prisoner 23/01/1917,

who died while PoW aged 54, Brandenburg PoW Camp.
I’m please Edward is remembered at last, and timely as he was taken prisoner 101 years ago today, and thanks also

to John Hartley and others on the Forum whose combined efforts secured this result.
23 January 1917:
The "Vera" was captured in the North Sea by the German submarine "U 44" (Paul Wagenführ), listed as lost but later

found that she had been taken as a prize (Lloyd's give the date captured as 26. 01. 1917). Crew of nine (listed below),

taken as Prisoners of War and held at Brandenburg PoW Camp. After the war the "Vera" became Bonby BN 165 (Boston),

then "La Dorade" (France), Owner G.W. Gautier, Nantes, France.
