Remembered Today:

Medal cards for Royal Navy personnel

I'm doing some research for a work colleague and found her great grandfather served in the Royal Navy Reserve in WW1. I have his service record courtesy of The National Archives and it shows he was awarded all 3 medals (1914/15 Star, War Medal and Victory Medal), but where would one find his medal card? Ancestry, Find my Past and The National Archives only seem to hold British Army Medal Cards or am I missing something?

Naval personnel do not have medal cards. Their medal entitlement is recorded in the appropriate ledger-based naval medal rolls, which are in ADM 171 at Kew.

Okay, thanks. That would explain it. The Navy obviously did things differently!
