My grandfather served in WWI in the AVC Number SE 8301

Joined Woolwich 19 May 1915

Embarked Southampton 27 May 1915

Disembarked Have 28 May 1915

Invalided England 14 Mar 1916

Chelsea Pensioner Number 93676

Can someone help me with finding where he was at Havre. I know the 2nd Hospital was there but not sure if he was stationed there or not as his army record shows he was invalided from "in the field"

Many thanks

Hello Gordon,

I have found the pension record which says embarked Southampton 27/5/15, disembarked havre 28/5/15, this does not mean he was stationed there, Havre was one of the main ports troops from all units arrived and then were sent to their various units, Edward would have been serving with or attached to a Unit serving in the Field, sadly there are no papers to say which unit he was with, otherwise we could pin point it with the use of War diaries etc,

hope this helps

I had the same problem with my grandfather who served in the AVC and was invalided. By chance I did a search on Forces War records and his name came up being evacuated on an ambulance train and that gave his unit as attached to a Field Artillery Brigade. Try that, you may be in luck.
