An overview of religion and the Great War?

Good afternoon,

I wonder if some kind member  could point me at a book/s giving a general overview of the Churches' responses to the Great War in the UK and/or the USA post 1916?

Many thanks,

Most of these are contemporary but nos. 14 and 21-23 may be of use (searched on war and religion in the title with subject entry world war 1914-1918)

http://copac.jisc.ac.uk/search?&sub=world+war+1914-1918&title=war+religion

The same search substituting "church" for "religion" called up 123 records, so I limited the search to those books published after 1990, which gives a more manageable 25:

http://copac.jisc.ac.uk/search?&date=1990-&sub=world+war+1914-1918&title=war+church  - unfortunately most of these are individual church memorials, but no.15 should help.

Finally, a subject search on "World War, 1914-1918 - Religious aspects" hauled in over 1100 records, so, once again limited by date and also to English language, here are another 101 ... good luck choosing ... http://copac.jisc.ac.uk/search?&date=1990-&lang=English&sub=World+War%2C+1914-1918+Religious+aspects.

I am sure that these books are among the lists that Sea Jane provided, but may I suggest:

Richard Schweitzer, The Cross and the Trenches: Religious Faith and Doubt among British and American Great War Soldiers (2003)

Michael Snape, God and the British Soldier (2005)

Philip Jenkins, THe Great and Holy War (2014)
