TGM Posted 5 January , 2018 Share Posted 5 January , 2018 (edited) Received an email indicating Findmypast updated/new data sets available: British Army, British Red Cross Society Volunteers 1914-1918 (described elsewhere on this forum) Ireland Military Pensions and Medals 1916-1922 Quote Explore more than 50,000 Irish military pension and medal records from Military Archives, Defence Forces Ireland. Did your ancestor serve during the Easter Rising or the War of Independence as a member of the Óglaigh na hÉireann, National Army, Irish Republican Army, Irish Volunteers, Irish Citizen Army, or Cumann na mBan? The records will reveal if your ancestor or someone on your ancestor’s behalf applied for a military medal or pension. You will discover your ancestor’s service history. Transcripts may also reveal your ancestor's birth date, death date (if killed), service number, rank, brigade, division, unit or regiment, medal or award, pension claim or address details. Some may even provide extensive details about the individual's service history and may record whether their claim was successful. TGM Posted 6 January , 2018 Author Share Posted 6 January , 2018 (edited) Thanks - the more alternative access sources the better. Findmypast should be freely accessible through public libraries in E&W. My message flags updates/new datasets on FMP. ss002d6252 Posted 6 January , 2018 Share Posted 6 January , 2018 For anyone who has used the records set is the RedCross indexing any better than FMP's (generally excellent) indexing ? Craig

Craig Craig, The FMP search results give a transcription of what is on the record cards. The Red Cross results gives what looks like the same transcription, plus images of both sides of the record cards. Some people have more than one record card. FMP allows wildcards in searches in the surname section, Red Cross does not.
