Guest Pete Wood Posted 30 December , 2004 Share Posted 30 December , 2004 It looks like a woodcut, based on the photo that was widely published at the time. What's the publication, please?
Guest Pete Wood Posted 30 December , 2004 Share Posted 30 December , 2004 This is one of a number of linked barrage balloons which were sited to the east of London, at different heights. On one raid, a Gotha's wing hit one of these suspended cables. The Gotha was forced into a spin (it stalled), but the pilot recovered the aeroplane and flew it safely home. Sadly the cable ripped off two (I think) bombs, from the Gotha, which fell in the Woolwich area and caused a number of civilian casualties.
