john w. Posted 18 December , 2017 Posted 18 December , 2017 Hi All I have a casualty who was a Second Lieutenant/lieutenant-quartermaster who was KIA and buried in Jerusalem War Cemetery. According to the grave registration form he was T/2/Lt.A.C ASC.att.M.Cot.C.T.C If the above can be deciphered then I might be able to work out what action he was involved in that killed him 15th Oct 1918 Thanks
Dai Bach y Sowldiwr Posted 18 December , 2017 Posted 18 December , 2017 T/2/Lt. means temporary 2nd Lieutenant A.C. are the initials of his christian names. Not sure what M.Cot.C.T.C means yet. I wonder if ther's a typo in there and that 'Cot' should be 'Coy' (Company).
john w. Posted 18 December , 2017 Author Posted 18 December , 2017 (edited) A.C. defo a typo.. as he was A.O. if Cot was Coy what would we get? Motor company commissariat and transport corps? Cheers Edited 18 December , 2017 by john w. addition
michaeldr Posted 18 December , 2017 Posted 18 December , 2017 (edited) In this theatre CTC = Camel Transport Corps and if 'M.Cot' is in fact M.Coy, then this unit appears in the OoB under General Headquarters Troops: see page 39 of 'The Advance of the EEF ...etc etc...' michaeldr Posted 18 December , 2017 Posted 18 December , 2017 (edited) From the same ref., page 100, "In the later stages of operations when the troops moved up country north of Haifa, seven of the XXIst Corps camel companies were employed on convoy duties until Beirut and Tripolis were captured." [Tripolis was occupied on 18th October 1918] NB: The OoB gives XXIst Corps only three companies [C, H & R] so they must have had four CTC companies added, and M from GHQ could possibly have been one of these. Alas, the above does not explain why, if he was KiA, then how is it that he is buried in Jerusalem and not either Haifa or Beirut? Where ever he was killed, by 15th October 1918 any action was way north of Jerusalem [map below from Lt Col Kearsey's Summary of Strategy & Tactics]
