seaJane Posted 8 December , 2017 Posted 8 December , 2017 I meant to mark this on the day in question, but forgot.
depaor01 Posted 8 December , 2017 Posted 8 December , 2017 One of my favourite pieces. I had a poignant moment with my dad involving that track just before he died three years ago. While arranging the music for his funeral the singer was singing the various hymns to me over the phone to help me choose. One of them she sang randomly to me was "Be Still My Soul" which is sung to the air of the slow piece in the middle of Finlandia. I had never heard lyrics to it before. A truly spine tingling moment. Happy Independence Day to Finland and thanks SeaJane for the reminder. Dave
seaJane Posted 9 December , 2017 Author Posted 9 December , 2017 Be Still my Soul is a favourite of mine - deserves to be better known. Thanks for the story, Dave. Had a wonderful time in Finland when we visited in 2007. Would love to go again.
MartH Posted 9 December , 2017 Posted 9 December , 2017 I am here now been round Mannerheim's museum today most interesting was there 1972 and 1979.
AOK4 Posted 9 December , 2017 Posted 9 December , 2017 The Mannerheim residence is indeed extremely interesting, especially his medals (as someone who's interested in that kind of stuff). There's of course plenty of other things to see there as well.
MartH Posted 10 December , 2017 Posted 10 December , 2017 Mannerheim's house has changed quite a bit since I last saw it in the early the early 70' s. And of course the 3 hour trip with my grandfather in 1979 but he did organise Mannerheim's 70 birthday so it was more mofe describing Mannerheim's behaviour, at the end we had over 15 people tagged on. Still the guide yesterday was very good.
