Remembered Today:

The Halifax Explosion

Agreed a very intersting link.

This helped me to locate the exact site of the explosion, a few hundred meters from where I was working in 1980. Quite close to the location of another incident that took place when I was there. A RCMF ship led a NATO flotilla into the narrows  cut the corner and went aground. I understand she was subject to some intersting offers of help as the other ships sailed past.
