Morning,

Just checked the HS picture against my own and a new headstone has been placed.

Many thanks again,

Graeme

Hi Graeme

Quite a number of the headstones in the plateau cemeteries were replacements. Whether that was done as the centenary approached, or whether it was a decision taken on the condition of the old stones only CWGC will know. But it was impressive to see that, in comparison to the Somme and Ypres, a backwater of the Great War still commands such investment from CWGC. I did have one issue with CWGC though - Boscon looked lovely, with the grass recently cut. Barenthal & Granezza looked slightly unkempt, with the grass uncut. I would have hoped that grass-cutting schedules could have been adjusted to take account of what was an important anniversary for the plateau. We met two or three parties who were visiting relatives' graves, including a group connected to Capt E Brittain - it was certainly an important event for us.
