I might be a little ambiguous here but does anyone know which German units were in the Santuary Wood area on the 2nd February 1916?

I am looking, in particular, in the Allied trench area B7-C3 which was north-west (ish) of Stirling Castle and at the north end of Sanctuary Wood.

This is all the info I have, so if someone can make anything out of it I would be very grateful

Many thanks.

It must be a Württemberg unit from the XIII. Armeekorps. I'll have a look in my books if I can pinpoint the exact regiment.

Hello Lee,

I think it must be Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 125 that occupied the sector. I've attached a map of the regimental sector as held by its predecessor, Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 105. IR 125 took over the trenches held by IR 105 around New Year 1916 and held these positions until April 1916.

Regards,

Jan
