Remembered Today:

3rd Battalion Suffolk Regiment

Hello,

Probably a daft question, but...  I can't find a War Diary for the 3 Bn Suffolk Regiment at The National Archives.

Has anyone else looked for this?  Is it hiding somewhere obscure, or is there perhaps a copy at some other archive?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Cheers
Stuart

They didn't serve overseas Stuart, hence you can't find one.

From mother -

3rd (Reserve) Battalion
August 1914 : in Bury St Edmunds. Moved to Felixstowe on 9 August 1914. A training unit used as the garrison for the defences of Harwich, it remained there throughout the war. The first reinforcement draft for France left as early as 26 August 1914. Moved to Rugeley Camp in March 1919.

Ah, that'd be it then!

Thanks!

Thanks - I'll give them a go.

I've got a couple of letters from a member of the battalion, and he talks obliquely about various events and duties (including tracking down and escorting back 'absentees') which I want to try and find out more about.  Apart from anything else, the letters aren't dated (though definitely from 1915) and I'm looking for any little details that might help pin the exact dates down.

Thanks again
Stuart
