As quite usual in this part of the world, things regarding the coming centennial events are being finalized just now....

(I stopped trying to fight this..... Accept as a fact of life...).

 

Attached is the invitation for the events of October 30th. Below is something the museum sent me.

"Liberation, Tidings and Hope"

A Special Exhibition in honor of the Centennial Anniversary of the Liberation of Rishon Le-Zion by the ANZAC forces and the           Balfour Declaration

The military maneuver of the conquest of the land of Israel by the British Army and ANZAC forces together with the political move of the issuance of the Balfour Declaration in London (November 2, 1917), laid a substantial foundation for the realization of the 2000-year old vision for the return of the people of Israel to their historical homeland and the establishment of the State of Israel. This vision was the basis for the establishment of the Rishon Le-Zion in 1882.

About the Museum: The Rishon Le-Zion Museum presents the uniqueness of Rishon Le-Zion as a creator of fundamental national values and symbols: It is here that the flag, the national anthem, the first Hebrew school, the first Jewish national fund and more, were created. Alongside these, the Museum displays the daily life in the village. The museum is located in seven unique historical buildings from the first days of Rishon Le-Zion.

The "Liberation, Tidings and Hope" Exhibition:

On November 14, 1917,close to Rishon Le-Zion, the 'Battle of 'Ayun Kara' between the ANZAC forces and the Eighth Field Army of the Ottoman Empire was staged. ANZAC forces who had come up from the south, defeated the Ottoman Army and thus opened up the way for them to conquer the city of Jaffa two days later. The Battle of 'Ayun Kara' was especially important because it was the first time that ANZAC officers were in command and not British officers as was customary. Additionally, it was an exceptional battle in its staging and strategy because it was a "moving battle" and not a battle fought along a broad front line as was the accepted practice in those days.

With the defeat of the Turks and the end of the battle, ANZAC soldiers entered Rishon Le-Zion and were received with great excitement and happiness. Together with the liberation of the village from the yoke of the Turks, the ANZAC commanders brought the important news of the "Balfour Declaration."

The Exhibition will present Rishon Le-Zion as a test case of a Hebrew settlement in the Land of Israel during the First World War and will combine historic and artistic displays.

A major place in the Exhibition will be devoted to the Battle of 'Ayun Kara', the liberation of Rishon Le-Zion by the ANZAC forces and the special relationship that was formed with the local residents.

The museum has in its possession rare historical photographs and documents and fascinating items from the battlefield of 'Ayun Kara'. The Exhibition will also showcase photographs taken by military photographers that were received from well-known museums around the world such as the Australian War Memorial in Canberra and the Imperial War Museum in London. The military photographers took pictures of the soldiers, of Rishon Le-Zion and of its people.

The final chapter of the exhibition presents the people of Rishon Le-Zion who served in the ranks of the British Army including the Australian Army and the Hebrew battalion.

The artistic segment of the exhibition is made up of four large works by          Rebbeca Holden from New Zealand, whose grandfather fought here in the ANZAC forces, which illustrate the experience of the battle.

Languages: The Exhibition will be presented in Hebrew and English. A skilled English-speaking team of guides is available for visitors.

Duration of Visit in the Museum and Exhibition: 1.5-2 hours.

Hospitality: The Museum has a large and impressive courtyard. A pleasant space may be reserved for hospitality and dinner for tour participants.
