All,

I have this bayonet, and I'm trying to understand all the datails engraved on the both lower sides of the blade.

Can anyone help?

This is a Pattern 1907 , British bayonet made by Vickers Co. (V enclosed by C) in September, 1918 (9 18).

On the other flat,  22 , 25 and 29are re-inspection dates (1922, 1925 and 1929)..

The large X is the bend test proof mark; the Broad Arrow head is the govt. ownership mark.

The crown over 9G over E (and the 4 other similar) are inspector stamps,

Vickers made only 10,000 bayonets, so these are scarce but not rare.

Enjoy your very nice bayonet.

JMB

Two small corrections - the VC marking is for Vickers Crayford, and in this case the 25 actually appears to be a 23.

Andrew,

Correct on both counts !

I’d like to pretend that I was checking on who was paying attention...........
