Welcome the forum, first thing to look at is local newspapers archives for the area he came from. Otherwise elderly relations or villagers. An outside possible source.is regimental museum, but only if he was of interest

1803 Lance Corporal Charles Stevenson, 3rd/1st Lowland Field Ambulance, R.A.M.C, died when H.M. Transport Royal Edward was sunk on 13 August 1915.
