98/05 bayonet unit markings

Hi everybody ,

I just entered a few days ago on a flea market a 98/05 bayonet with unit markings that I am unable to traduce  considering that my  main interest is the french army between 1920 and 1940 !!

I read recently a long discussion about WW1  regimental markings and I'm sure that some members can help me and identify mines.

A.F. is an artillery regiment marking, not sure about the G though.

Trajan, one for you?

Hi everybody ,

thank you very much for all that very complete details . I was unable to find this alone , my main topic is the french army 1920-1940 , too far from  WW1 german items .

best regards

It is the Garde-FussArtillerie-Regt., 3rd ArmeeKorps, Howitzer Batterie Nr.1, Waffe Nr.8

Away from home and notes, but the mark looks to be G.A.F. III 1.H.8.

What is the date and who is the maker please - W/11 and SIMSON?

PS: Welcome back SS me old cobber - where have you been hiding?

Looking back I see that I did not finish this!

So, if G.A.F.III.1.H.8., then I think it is the Garde-Fussartillerie-Regiment, III Bataillon 1 Haubitz-Batterie Munitionskolonne Waffe Nr.8. That would seem to be the correct interpretation based on the guidelines set out in the 1909 reguations on unit-marking, but I don't claim any competence regarding the structure of the Garde-Fussartillerie-Regiment !!! Note, though, that as I understand it, that the Garde-Fussartillerie-Regiment became the 1.Garde-Fussartillerie-Regiment in 1914, when the 2.Garde-Fussartillerie-Regiment was formed.
