delta Posted 13 August , 2017 Share Posted 13 August , 2017 (edited) Grateful for your assistance in unpicking a quandary, Five soldiers from 1st Tank Bde and D Bn Tank Corps are buried at Grevillers British Cemetery; each one losing their life on 30 Nov 17. There is no record of the losses in either the Tank Bde history or D Bn's history or war diary. The two tank crewmen (Haygarth and Lowe) doth initially deployed to France with D Company; the others were either attached to D Bn or 1st Tank Bde HQ, Grevillers is at some distance from Cambrai, where the Tanks were trying to get away from the German counter attack which was threatening to retake much of the ground seized near Gouzeaucourt. Can anyone help by explaining why these soldiers now rest in the cemetery? Edited 13 August , 2017 by delta
david murdoch Posted 14 August , 2017 Share Posted 14 August , 2017 Delta. I found DM/224682 Spencer Rowley. Service record states he died at 29 Casualty Clearing Station of wounds received in action. Blair also died there of wounds, as there is a telegraph from o/c 29 CCS in his (Rowley's) file which notes them both, and their units. Location of the CCS may assist.
