Remembered Today:

4th Wiltshire Regiment RDF

Just found an undated reference to L/cpl W J Fox 175, B Coy, 6 Platoon, 4th Wiltshire Regiment R.D.F.  being at Lark Hill Camp on Salisbury Plain.

The 3/4th Wiltshire Regiment was at Lark Hill from  October 1917to May 1918.

I can't think what R.D.F. stands for (except Royal Dublin Fusiliers). My first thought was Royal Defence Force, but of course it was Royal Defence Corps.

Suggestions welcomed!

No idea.  All know is that they went to Dublin after Larkhill.

Hmm.. I've got a William Jesse Fox, a 1924 Tank Corps enlistment, born c1900 Swindon. Under previous service;

Rifle Brigade 60969 10/8/1917-22/10/1919

Defence Force - 4th Wiltshire Regiment 11/4/1921-4/7/1921

I appreciate that the dates are all wrong, but still...

Hey, that's useful, IPT. Thanks. My list of unit locations in Wiltshire doesn't extend to 1921.

And the LLT tells us this about the Defence Force.

Perhaps William confused the "new" Defence Force with the "old" Royal Defence Corps.

Here's the letter that gave the "undated reference" to which I referred in my opening post:

Note the reference to the fight between "some of the Wilts & R.F.A ... there is three in hospital".
