BillyH Posted 28 July , 2017 Share Posted 28 July , 2017 Can anyone throw some light on this hospital please? I can't find it on the LLT or searching this Forum. Perhaps it is Coban? (clipping below) BillyH.
seaJane Posted 29 July , 2017 Share Posted 29 July , 2017 I've tried Coben and Coban and Cobain but found nothing for the GW period, sorry. sJ

seaJane Posted 31 July , 2017 Share Posted 31 July , 2017 (edited) This is really bugging me! Looking at the l at the end of Hospital I also tried Colen. Then I tried all the variants in Belgium instead of France in case of a lapse of memory. Still no luck. Grrr! NB have searched the National Archives as well as Google and Maps. May try the Times later. Edited 31 July , 2017 by seaJane
BillyH Posted 31 July , 2017 Author Share Posted 31 July , 2017 It'd not overly important to me sJ, but like you say it has been bugging me as well. I bet Sue Light may have known? BillyH.
TEW Posted 31 July , 2017 Share Posted 31 July , 2017 Clutching at straws a bit but these forms were either filled out by the soldier himself or in some cases dictated by the soldier. I have seen these forms where hospital stays were omitted, presuambly because the man forgot. Perhaps it's a poor attempt at a phonetic rendition of where he thought he was? Is there nothing on a Casualty Form? TEW
seaJane Posted 31 July , 2017 Share Posted 31 July , 2017 (edited) I've been working on the same principles, Tew, but can't think of anything! The two other hospital names are correctly spelt ... Edited 31 July , 2017 by seaJane Typo

Terry_Reeves Posted 31 July , 2017 Share Posted 31 July , 2017 (edited) It might be Colombes near Paris. A lot of French hospitals took British troops, particularly in the early part of the war. In this case Hopital Auxiliaire 270 was there and possibly Hopital Auxiliaire 236. Both admitted British soldiers. seaJane Posted 31 July , 2017 Share Posted 31 July , 2017 This is a page on all the hospitals in Rouen http://www.rouen-histoire.com/14-18/Hopitaux.htm including the "Hopitaux du Commonwealth" http://www.rouen-histoire.com/14-18/Hopitaux_Angl.htm. For future reference the latter link includes lists of English, Australian, South African, Canadian and American soldiers who died in Rouen. I can lend a hand with translating from the French if wished. I notice a "Hopital Cousin" which ... hmmm ... given a hasty overhear of a French word, still doesn't seem likely. Still, for what it's worth: http://www.rouen-histoire.com/14-18/Hopital_Cousin.htm
