EastSurrey Posted 24 July , 2017 Share Posted 24 July , 2017 In memory of Captain George Stephen Pirie, an exceptional RMO, killed by shellfire near Hill 60 on 24 July 1917, his 29th birthday. Born in South Africa, he qualified at Edinburgh University. He was MiD for service in Gallipoli, where he was wounded, serving as RMO to 2/Hants and 2/R. Fusiliers, 29th Division. He was MiD posthumously for his RMO service with 9/E. Surrey, 24th Division on the Western Front. He is buried in Dickebusch New Military Cemetery Extension.
