uksweetheart Posted 11 July , 2017 Share Posted 11 July , 2017 Hi, I have been told that this is a bomb detonator, could someone please confirm as I have looked on the net and can't find anything like it. Was found metal detecting on the decoy site at Little Humber
T8HANTS Posted 11 July , 2017 Share Posted 11 July , 2017 It appears to be the primer from a WW2 shell case. Any other information you may have to gather from other sources, there are ordnance collectors forums whose members may be more confident and competent to give you chapter and verse, including if the item is completely inert, an area into which I will not stray, as I am not. peregrinvs Posted 11 July , 2017 Share Posted 11 July , 2017 It appears to be a 'Primer, Percussion, Q.F. Cartridges No.9 MkIII' made at ROF Chorley in 1941. Possibly originally fitted to a 3.7" anti-aircraft gun cartridge case. It looks like the primer has been struck and the vent tube is empty, so from the pictures I'd assume it was inert. A soak of penetrating oil may allow you to unscrew the tube from the primer.
Gunner Bailey Posted 12 July , 2017 Share Posted 12 July , 2017 With a bit of work these polish up really nicely.
