I am researching Lieutenant Mckay, McKay died of wounds 18 May 1918 serving with 179th Tunnelling Company, R. E.

The award of his Military Cross appears in the London Gazette of 3 June 1918 - T./Lt. Alexander Matheson McKay, R.E.  He died of Wounds on may 18th 1918.  I am looking for anything on McKay,  perhaps on his death or the circumstances of his MC it was a birthday award so no citation but perhaps there is some more information out there.

All help appreciated

Regards

Richard

There is a file on him at The National Archives at http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C1110617.

A search on Ancestry reveals the following:

Alexander Matheson McKay born 9 November 1891 at Newington, Edinburgh. Parents - William McKay & Elizabeth Anderson

I was visiting Sandymount Cemetery in Glasgow today and I found Alexander's name included on a memorial from his family.
