WW1 Glass Stereo photos

Absolutely not a pocket camera for quick snapshots! I do not have an identity for this, the closest design seems to be the German 'MARS Detective' series which has the sliding box to protect the bellows and a false front to protect the lens and focus controls. This would be a rare professional version; that hooded view finder looks more like a modern cine camera.

They took a couple of these to France in 1915 together with one cine camera and a mountain of plates and cine film; they claim to have taken 18,000 ft of film and 2000 photographs, of which around 1500 were sent to G.H.Q. for censoring. So far I have catalogued over 1100 Great War stereoviews from different negatives (but not all of these came from this photographic trip).

Effort should be made to ensure the long term physical preservation of this material.  Museological/archival input should be sought.

I wonder if this is the same gun

Could well be. Although the camoflague markings on the gun and surrounding bunker are somewhat different, the trees in the distance look similar.

The Leugen boom gun has been mentioned on the forum before. Maybe there's another picture?

Wow - killer stereo, even if the stereo effect is blunted by the distance!
