[Letter].[Number]. [Letter-must be either A,B,C or D]. [Number]. [Number] The last two numbers must both be of either one digit- i.e. 0-9, or of two digits- i.e 00-99. Each element should be separated by a full stop with no spaces. If we discount the 'NE 1:20000' in all the references, you can see that almost all of them have been mis transcribed somewhere along the line: Sheet 28 E. 16 A 218 Last numbers wrong. I'm guessing they should be 2.8 . Gives 28.E.16.a.2.8 Sheet 28 E. 16 a 218 Ditto Sheet 28 1. 3G 5.3 Can't be a number 1 in that location- 'maybe the letter 'I'. It can't really be number '13', as there is no letter to precede it, and can only be followed by a,b,c or d. Is the 'G' actually a lower case 'b' ? Sheet 28 16a 2.8 Missing letter between 28 and 16, I'm guessing it should be 'E' Sheet 28 E15 d 9.2 Would benefit from being written as 28.E.15.d.9.2 Have a look at the handwritten entries again to see where the errors are. You can enter valid co-ordinates into the Great British Trench Converter at: Link Edited 29 May , 2017 by Dai Bach y Sowldiwr
theodore Posted 29 May , 2017 Author Share Posted 29 May , 2017 (edited) Hi Dai Bach, Thank you for explaining how the reference info I asked about works. You are quite right 218 should read 2.8, G could well be a lower case b and the 1 should be the letter I. So after looking again (with more care) the reference details should have read I believe as follows:- Sheet 28 NE 1 : 20000 E.11.d.1.1 E.16.a.2.8 E.1.3.b.5.3 E.16.a.2.8 E.15.d.9.2 Regards Peter Edited 29 May , 2017 by theodore
