On researching my grandfathers medical records , section 16 states - operation performed - YES , PB REMOVED . Does anyone know what 'pb' stands for ?

thanks for your replys . The micro-film at Kew where i got this information from was not very clear , and i did have trouble reading the abbreviations . so either of you could be correct , thanks again .

Steve,

If it is PB this stands for 'Permanent Base' this classification was given to a man when he was no longer fit for front line service and was posted to an Infantry Base Depot.

As bullets are made of lead either a bullet or bullet fragments would have been removed. SG
