Good Afternoon

Does anyone know if there are records (other than service files etc) anywhere which might give lists or names of

those 6th Battalion Sherwood Foresters who served with the battalion in Dublin during the Easter Rising?

Cheers

As far as I am aware there is no official list of the 2/6th men that went to Ireland.

The Regimental archives have rolls of men that served with the 2/6th Lewis Gun teams (many would have been in Ireland) and also rolls of Derby Scheme men from Jan-Feb 1916 (again many would have gone to Ireland).

I have complied a pretty accurate list based on the medal rolls - i.e. men that enlisted prior to April 1916 and went to France with 2/6th in Feb 1917, but it hasn't captured men that served in Ireland with 2/6th and were sent to France to 1/6th during May-Dec 1916. But it won't be too bad.

Are you after someone in particular?

cheers

Mike

A CWGC search for Sherwoods buried in Grangegorman Cemetery will give you a list of those KIA because they were buried locally. Not comprehensive but might help.
