I know that the 25th Division were in the line south of Frezenburg and captured Westhoek on this date. Does anyone know the Division holding the line to the north of the village?

Many thanks as always.

It would appear from Official History [France and Flanders 1917 vol.2, p.185] that it was the 16th (Irish) Division. 15th Division had been holding the line north of the Ypres-Roulers railway until 4 August 1917, but then they were replaced by the 16th (Irish) Division. John McCarthy, (Passchendaele the Day-by-Day Account, p. 35) seems to back this up. 16th (Irish) Division were still there on 16 August, when they were involved in a major attack (McCarthy, pp. 48-9).

Hope that this helps,

William
