Gustywinds Posted 13 April , 2017 Share Posted 13 April , 2017 Just came across this book on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/My-Small-Share-Quaker-Diary-ebook/dp/B00KVWH5VE/ It is the diary of a chap who was the administrator of the Queen Alexandra hospital in Dunkirk and is a fascinating record of the continual shelling and air raids they endured and records several notable incidents such as the attack on the monitor HMS Erebus by remotely controlled FL Boat Of particular interest to me is this paragraph: Christmas Day (1917) "Christmas Day A snowy, stormy day. Two Lieutenants brought in yesterday, both killed in crashes. One turned out be the brother of one of our V.A.D.s and an old member of the unit. I started Xmas Day by getting three bodies into coffins, a cheerful occupation. Concerts afternoon and evening." The VAD was my great aunt, Kathleen Greeves, the two Lieutenants were my great uncle FSL T.M Greeves and a Canadian called Douglas R.C.
