davidbohl Posted 12 April , 2017 Share Posted 12 April , 2017 (edited) My recent research has unearthed the erroneous recording of the death of J.E.M.Brunskill by Nottinghamshire County Council on their website which lists employees of Boots The Chemists "who made the supreme sacrifice". After WW1 he went out to Cairo as a Pharmacist, see http://www.seftonrugby.org.uk/BrunskillJEM.html I have replied to Notts County Council about this through their website but it was not acknowledged http://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/rollofhonour/WarMemorials/Details/644 I'm not too sure if the RAMC records are correct, anybody have access to them ? John Beech Posted 13 April , 2017 Share Posted 13 April , 2017 (edited) Hi Dave I have had a look at Ancestry and there appears to be only one John E M Brunskill on MIC although he has two cards, the second appearing to have been issued in conjunction with his SWB. However, looking at your website he appears to be your man. The first card shows him as 1409 S/Sgt. John E M Brunskill RAMC entered theatre 10th September 1915 Balkans and discharged 12th March 1919. The second card shows him as 344027 S/Sgt. John Edward Moss Brunskill and indicates he was serving at 1st Western General Hospital. He is shown as enlisting 1st August 1914 and discharged 11th March 1919 Para 392 (xvia) Surplus to military requirements (having suffered impairment since entry into the service). The BWM & VM Roll has 1409 as S/Sgt John Edmund Brunskill with no initial 'M' whilst the 1914-1915 Star Roll has him as 1409 S/Sgt J E M Brunskill which corresponds to the MIC. SWB Roll shows issued badge B278810 and confirms date of discharge as 11th March 1919, that he was 28 years and 1 month when discharged and had served overseas, so it appears his number was changed from 1409 to 344027 at some point (Possible Territorial renumbering?). The roll also lists him as S/Sgt. John Edward Moss Brunskill There is no one else on CWGC with that combination of initials or on SDGW. Also, not found service or pension record on Ancestry or FMP I will probably see someone involved with the Notts County Council website at our local WFA branch tomorrow and will bring your information to his attention. To be fair to them, they have done sterling work in creating a virtual Roll of Honour for our county, something that doesn't exist in any other form. There is no supporting information for John Brunskill on the website, as they also presumably didn't find a death recorded, and they have included him purely based on his name appearing on the memorial. This begs the question where did Boots get their information from?? Regards John Edited 13 April , 2017 by John Beech

John Beech Posted 13 April , 2017 Share Posted 13 April , 2017 Hi Dave Rereading your website, Tolson served with 87th (1st West Lancashire) Field Ambulance, which was part of 29th Division. The Division arrived in Egypt early in April 1915 before landing at Gallipoli on 25th April. If Brunskill served in the same unit, he would appear to have landed as a replacement in September, although we cannot know for certain that he also served with 87th (1st West Lancashire) Field Ambulance. Tolson's MIC shows him arriving in Egypt on 21st October 1915. His RAMC serial number was 1776. Regards John
