alain dubois Posted 30 March , 2017 Share Posted 30 March , 2017 Hi, According to the war diary of the Manchester Regiment during the last days before Armistice, and some days after, they billeted at 57.B27 d 3.5; B27 d 4.3 ; B27 d 0.0 for "D" Coy and at 16 d 3.5 ; B16 d 6.5 ; B16 d 6.7 ; B16 d 6.9 ; B15 D 4.8; for "A" Coy. They were around Sivry ( now Sivry-Rance) in Belgium, some km from French Border. I have never seen the #57 map . Has somebody a map of that sector ? (B16. B27 at least) Thanks in advance. alain dubois Posted 30 March , 2017 Author Share Posted 30 March , 2017 Eddie, It's the #57B map! I'm looking for the #57 map ( nor a, nor b,c,d), and for the billets the coordinates are 57.B.27.d.3.5 for instance. The Belgian NGI map 57 ( The origin of the british trench maps numbers) is exactly what we want, but with the british grid, to avoid location errors
EDWARD1 Posted 30 March , 2017 Share Posted 30 March , 2017 Alain Which battalion of the Manchester Regt are you referring too ? Eddie
alain dubois Posted 30 March , 2017 Author Share Posted 30 March , 2017 (edited) 9th Battalion, on November 10 & 11, and just after the ceasefire. I have a correspondent looking for the story of a German gun abandonned and given to the municipality by ..(?).. major general William Osborne Barnard. Scrapped later by the Germans of WWII, it was replaced by another recently (2009) stolen. Alain Edited 31 March , 2017 by alain dubois
