laughton Posted 7 April , 2017 Share Posted 7 April , 2017 Here is his Service Record: http://central.bac-lac.gc.ca/.item/?op=pdf&app=CEF&id=B1929-S020 Took a bullet in the head in July 1915 at Armentieres. It appears it fractured his skull, after penetration at the vortex, causing paralysis on his right side. After 3 operations, his file says he was "anxious for his discharge". He was eventually "Struck off Strength" as medically unfit at East Sandling on 29 February 1916. NOK was his father in Dublin, Ireland. His Medical Board file says his name was Patrick Conray not Peter Conroy? There is nothing in his file to say that he died in Active Service or that his wounds were life threatening? So what did he die of on 28 August 1918, some 3 years after he was shot in the head? It would have had to have been death deemed to be the result of his service to receive commemoration. There is no "Veteran Death Card" that I could find. Perhaps Terry has more information - were his remains recovered?
