Rob HAmilton Posted 28 January , 2017 Share Posted 28 January , 2017 Hi All, this is my first post for some time, it's nice to be back. I've been looking through my local paper (the Halifax Courier) for March 1917 and have noticed a lot of adverts exhorting men and women to enrol for National Service. There are also a number of articles by local and national politicians talking about the same subject although they seem a little confused about the issue. Does anyone know any further details about this scheme or can point me in the direction of a reliable source which explains what it was all about. Many thanks Rob Hamilton
Moonraker Posted 28 January , 2017 Share Posted 28 January , 2017 The confusion was noted in the Commons Hansard "At the present time a great deal is left vague by the speeches that have been so far made ." The Spectator article referred to is presumably this one. Moonraker
