Hi trying to find records of my great grandfather who was killed in action on the 23 October 1914. I understand that he was awarded the DCM and mentioned in despatches any help would be greatley appreciated. I did find out that his memorial is in the Le TOURET war cemetary.

Hi,

From his medal index card - freely available on Ancestry - he landed in France with 2nd Battalion 14th August 1914 and died of wounds 23rd October 1914.

His DCM award was published in the London Gazette of 6th November 1914.

His campaign medals were issued to NOK in 1970 having been returned unissued in 1921. I presume his DCM would've been presented to his widow/family in 1915.

I'm sure a member with LG knowledge will turn up his DCM citation.
