Thank you. It just shows that wild cards don't necessarily work on TNA. At least their names and correct numbers are now available to search

Diane

Post 90   40455  JJ  Anderson  is correct John James Anderson, 1 KOSB and 6 KOSB, MIC available on Ancestry (who have mistranscribed unit as KOYLI !) (note FMP have incorrectly transcribed service number as 4045 !!)

  Post 91  278636  TR Kinnell  should be 278633 Thomas R Kinnell, prev 3654 A&SH, finally 427653 LabourCorps

Like you I couldn't trace the other 2* on these lists. Often a problem of Service Number? -would this be partly your transcribing? Sorry, don't mean to be rude, but perhaps seeing original might give me a clue?

Diane, nothing wrong with your transcribing. Clear enough handwriting- can't be a doctor.

post 92    Re Harman J, 6278.  This is John Harman PW/6278 of the 16th Middlesex. Sadly he died of his wounds the next day, 26th. Strangely his Medal Roll entry shows him with just this number but I cannot locate an Index Card that corresponds.

Courtesy Ancestry593b06a25d4ca_HarmanJRoll.JPG.36811d553764d2a29b20a5816fe69685.JPG

Charlie

Edit - this gets more complicated- here is his probate record, John Harman Collett. Could we be hitting the problem of Alias?; But I always thought Medal Index Card was an index to the Roll, compiled from the roll?593b09517f422_HarmanJProbate.JPG.7c7674bf4765d5dab0833e227d2ca536.JPG

but I still haven't found a card.

The Medal Index Cards were compiled from the roll but there are a small number which appear to be have been missing (or have been badly transcribed) as far back as the N/A's originals - Ancestry then also further mangled them in places (and again a small number seem to have vanished in between). I can't see an obvious card for him with the N/A.

The effects records record he served as John Harman, it's not listed as an alias which is unusual. All monies sent to his father, John.

Thanks Craig.  The main thing is we have both names listed now and will come up if searched, which is Diane's aim.

Still looking for Watson and Mullinger. In the back of my mind I'm fairly certain that, after a number of years, the MICs were up for grabs.

Thanks Charlie and Craig

The originals of the MICs are held by the WFA. Don't think they provide any access given digitisation.

I can't spot any obvious medal records for Mullinger - is the original legible or is there wiggle room in the transcription ?
