Thanks Dianne and Sotonmate for your fast replies. It seems unlikely that I'll be able to find out more about my relative Arthur's cause of death but thank very much for your help.

Did all CCS's have these lists of operations or is this just a lucky survivor?

I would like to record my thanks and appreciation for all the work you have done to make these records available.

I have been counting down the dates of entry and anticipated reading the entries for 10th and 11th Feb 1917 but I guess the records for those dates are missing.

Once again thank you.

Does anyone know if it is possible to determine which Surgeons were attached to  CCS#19 in August 1918?  I see Sampson and Laurie in 1917 but I wonder if they were still there in 1918?

Thanks,

There were no Operations sheets, such as Diane has posted here, for 1918. WO95/414 has these sheets which began in Oct 1915 and abruptly ended after April 1917.

I will see if I can find if these Surgeons are named as being present at this CCS after that period and let you know.

The Diary is now digital and has several parts (WO95/414/5 is the part for 1918). I was not able to see the paper copy due to the digitisation and found the clarity of the screen images in the reading room unsatisfactory, so was unable to answer your question.

As above. I will try to transcribe the page you found fuzzy and faint (at least it's in the right medical facility for treatment) and mail it to you.

Hazel,

I had a look through the diary for July & August 1918 and extracted the officers arriving, leaving, giving lectures etc. Any that didn't leave or return etc aren't listed but you'll be pleased that Sampson & Laurie are still there!

1/7/18. Capt. & QM RSA Reynolds went on leave.
2/7/19 Major Sampson (Surg. specialist) cut his ???? (face?) playing football- necessitating anesthetic & stitching.
3/7/18 Applied to DMS for return of Capt. Laurie (2nd Surgeon) from 56 CCS on acct. of Maj Sampson's accident.
4/7/18. Capt. RD Laurie, Sister E C Jordan & Pte. Baxter returned from leave duty at 56 CCS.
7/7/18. Capt. WA Elliot from [Gds.?] MGC replaced Lieut. R Davies MORC USA.
10/7/18. Handed over command to Maj. RC Clarke RAMC.
17/7/18. Capt. Laurie went on leave.
26/7/18. Lt. Col. Dun returned from leave.
3/8/18. Major Sampson went on leave. Major Sands MORC USA 320th infantry Regt. arrived.
4/8/18 Capts. Laurie and Beckett returned from leave. Major Sands MORC USA left.
9/8/18. Capt. Tierney went on temp duty to 21CCS.
11/8/18 Chaplain HG Doel arrived for temp duty.
19/8/18. 11 MOs from 319 American field hospital arrived for the night.
21/8/18. Three surgical teams arrived:
1. Maj. Robertson from 48 CCS (and nurses/orderlies)
2. Capt. Ferris & Capt. Fripp from 48 CCS (and nurses/orderlies)
3. Capt. McLeod & Capt. McKay from 47 CCS (and nurses/orderlies)
Capt. Pintusal Siamese RAMC & Capt. DGS Gartshore arrived for temp duty.
