Paddy 60th Posted 15 February , 2017 Share Posted 15 February , 2017 Thank you for posting this schedule which makes fascinating reading. Remarkable how many cases there are relating to appendix problems. Do you have access to any other CCS records ? I had a relative,2nd Lieut. Arthur Towers Lunt of the Kings Liverpool Regt who was wounded on the Somme on 16th Aug 1916 and died at 21 CCS ( La Neuville ) on the following day. I would like to find out about his wounds/cause of death and if he was operated on. Roger
sotonmate Posted 15 February , 2017 Share Posted 15 February , 2017 Roger 21CCS had a limited number of casualty details entered in the War Diary WO95/414, often determined by the diarist's methods. There are many with very frugal detail on casualty, more often a story of the staff than the patients, they are after all a Unit Diary, and the unit also had to list their casualties in the CCS Admissions and Discharge Register, so thos who conscientiously entered data in the Diary had also to repeat it in the Registers. In respect of 21CCS there was only the odd reference to staff from mid 1916 or so. Here a sample of the style of this Diary:
Bardess Posted 16 February , 2017 Author Share Posted 16 February , 2017 Thank you Roger. @sotonmate discovered these notes on one of his many visits to TNA and, unfortunately, there are only a few more months/part months to go. They are fascinating aren't they!
hazelclark Posted 16 February , 2017 Share Posted 16 February , 2017 Wow. My first visit to the Forum in a while. I guess there is no chance of August 1918 being available? My great uncle Robert Finlayson died there on the 29th. ( CCS #19 Frevent) He was admitted on the 27th and I have a lovely letter written to his mother by Sister Flower. She said that he had been operated on by a "very clever doctor" but that they had been able to save him. She sent a lock of his hair. thanks, Hazel C.
