Station Road, Shotts - Which Regiment

Guys, I have been sent a picture of soldiers on Station Road, Shotts during the Great War.   Would I be correct in saying these are Royal Scots?

Thanks,

Swally

Hello Swally,

This looks like a pre-war photograph. Probably he local battalion for Shotts, which was the 8th Highland Light Infantry. This is according to ;The Territorials 1908-1914', by Ray Westlake.

I also think this is pre-war.

The most obvious unit would be the local TF battalion which as Alf says was 8 HLI. The pale facings would be appropriate as the facing colour of the HLI was buff. The facing colour of the Royal Scots (a "Royal" regiment) was blue which I think should appear dark in the bw photo.

Swally,

The photo may be of 'D' Company of the 8th H.L.I. The men of this Company came from Shotts, Clelland, Salsburgh and Harthill.

Regards,

Alf

Brilliant guys, thanks for the help.  I thought it was Royal Scots due to flashings at the bottom of the jacket.
