Alastair Posted 30 December , 2016 Share Posted 30 December , 2016 7th Scottish Rifles (aka Cameronians) - Gallipoli. Dear all, I am undertaking a detailed study of this territorial battalion which suffered heavy losses in its first assault on 28th June 1915 at Gully Ravine. Because so many died, little has been written about their contribution to this conflict, and the impact on the Glasgow community. I am particularly interested in any letters, diaries, family histories and other sources that might be out there to add to what little has been written in official sources. All information, or ideas on where material might be would be gratefully received. I have already been to the museum in Hamilton, and to the National Archives etc, but am more interested in unpublished sources that may exist within families. Guest Posted 10 November , 2018 Share Posted 10 November , 2018 Dear Alastair, it is some two years since your post and this is perhaps too late. My grandfather, Lance corporal Piper John McIntyre, was killed with most of the rest of the battalion on 28 June 1915. I have a letter(sadly in poor condition) sent by him to my grandmother on 15 June 1915 less than two weeks before he was posted missing. I will be happy to send you a copy and a transcript of all I have been able to read if it is of interest. Much has been deleted by the censor in ink(the letter is is pencil) and is impossible to read. I have always been intrigued by what has been deleted. If you know of any method available to see beneath the ink blockage I would be pleased. Please let me know if you are interested.
