Cece Peake was my grandfather but there is no record of him at the archives in Canada. Perhaps he enlisted in the RN? Hoping someone can see if there is any UK record

Just typing the name: Cecil Peake, into ancestry Military search function, doesn't get any hits.

anymore information; Date of birth? where was he born? Father and mother names?

anymore info may help....

paul

ps nothing on Find My Past website either.

"Cecil Peake" is an uncommon name combination. There is an RN rating who had the names as forenames: Cecil Peake BOOTH. Born in Paris - also a bit unusual. Maybe just a coincidence -

Thanks for the response—and apologies for my late reply, holidays, you know. I thought he was in the RN, but it seems now that he was army. As for  the surname Booth, unless here is some family secret that's been buried until now, I suspect that is someone else. I know little about him as he died when I was very young. I believe his father's name was William and he may have been born in London around 1898

There are three public family trees (Aver, Lindsay-Allen and Peake) on Ancestry showing the same Cecil, as in the 1911 census above, arriving in Canada in August 1912 with his father and mother - living in Moncton, New Brunswick, marrying a Catherine Gallagher, having two children (Thomas & Joyce) and dying there in 1965. No mention there of military service.

That then, more than likely, dismisses this entry in the Surrey registers of the above soldier.

Unlikely then that Cecil Peake returned to the UK and enlisted into any of the armed services. Not with evidence still in existence anyway.

Wow! Great sleuthing there. Wandererpaul, your mention of the 1911 census nailed it, as well as Langdon's Ancestry family tree post (Thomas was my father). Re: Charles Arthur Peake, my grandfather was about 6'4—an imposing man of about 250 lbs to a 8 year old when I saw him last in 1964. Thanks for you all your help
