'lines colors' in the front

Hi all,

Reading War Diaries, I've found "Blue line", 'Brown line', Black line', ...

I would like to known what mean these colors : order to fight ? distance ? priority ?

Thanks for your help.

Best regards

Pierre

They are the lines of successive waves of an attack's objective: so the first wave would capture the Brown Line, the second the Blue and so on. I suppose they refer to the colour they were drawn on the map. There will also, I am sure, be a routine, so Brown (or whichever is always first, Blue (or whichever) second, and so on

Looking at the maps in the Official History, there does not seem to be any hard and fast rule as to the order of the colours. I think it depended on what crayons the staff officers had to hand at the time.

Hi Ron, Hi Steven,

I thank you for your help. I thought there was a rule but your answers are clear.

Thanks to you both.
