MaureenE Posted 5 December , 2016 Share Posted 5 December , 2016 One aspect of veterinary history of the war that appears not to have featured on the Forum is the life and-veterinary-activities of Arnold Leese, long time fascist,anti-semite but also something of a decent vet- his monograph on the treatment of the one-humped camel (always a hazard when driving around Victoria,as Steven will know) was standard for fifty years. And the title of his privately printed memoirs is compelling: Out of Step: Events in the Two Lives of an Anti-Jewish Camel Doctor. The following books are available online, click on coloured text Out of Step: Events in the Two Lives of an Anti-Jewish Camel-Doctor by Arnold Spencer Leese. 1951 Archive.org. Born 1878, during WW1 Leese was an Army Veterinary Surgeon on the Western Front working with horses, and also purchased camels for the Army. He had previously worked in India and Africa with camels. In the late 1920s he became a British Fascist polititian. "Tips" on camels for veterinary surgeons on active service by A.S. Leese 1918. Pdf download, KrishiKosh: Indian Agricultural Research Institute. Cheers Maureen Edited to add: A signed copy of Leese's definitive work on camels, A Treatise on the One-Humped Camel in Health and in Disease 1927 is currently available for £2,000 at Peter Harrington Rare Books (December 2016)
