Remembered Today:

Railway Operating Division Royal Engineers Train

Recommended Posts

I am trying to establish 'any' information regarding engine: GER ROD Number 810 operated by the ROD Royal Engineers.

This engine was a 0-6-O GER "Y14".

I believe there may be an entry for it in the book:
The Railway Operating Division on the Western Front: The Royal Engineers in France and Belgium 1915-1919.

Thank you for your help.

The book in question states:

GER/ROD Nos: 810 (5810)

LNER No:   7810

Built Stratford:11/86

Ex Works ROD Service 29/3/1917

Received Stratford return: 27/6/1919

ROD Service History: Gombremetz -/17, Boisleux-au-Mont 12/17

Withdrawn LNER 1/29

There is also a general paragraph on the Y14s in ROD use which is quite long. There are no photos of that locomotive that I can find.

There is a very nice film clip on the IWM collection of a Y14 shunting wagons and tanks etc off the Richborough Train Ferry in Calais in 1918.  I can't make out the number, though it begins with a 5 but it may be of interest, can be downloaded on line.  IWM 372 "New Channel Ferry"
