PaulC78 Posted 22 November , 2016 Share Posted 22 November , 2016 Can anyone identify this man, Pte David Bretherton of the KLR, who is named on Halsall war memorial in Lancashire? I have all of the other names but this one has me stumped. I've searched the military records, census, BMDs and parish registers but there don't seem to be any obvious candidates. daggers Posted 22 November , 2016 Share Posted 22 November , 2016 The same name appears on St Cuthbert's, Halsall, church roll of honour, according to the Merseyside Roll of Honour website, but I have not found any more than that. Could he have died after the CWGC's cut-off date? Daggers
PaulC78 Posted 23 November , 2016 Author Share Posted 23 November , 2016 It's possible, but I'm pretty sure the memorial is early 1920s so it can't be too long after. Had another look in the records, there's a David Bretherton age 30 who died at Preston in 1918. No obvious Halsall connection but might be worth investigating.
