Stephen Nulty Posted 21 November , 2016 Share Posted 21 November , 2016 Not sure if this has been posted before but the above is now available via BNA and FMP some extensive lists of deserters included
quadrangle Posted 21 November , 2016 Share Posted 21 November , 2016 Unfortunately FMP advertise police gazette 1914-1919, however the years 1917 and 1918 are missing. Just searching a common name will establish this.
Guest Posted 21 November , 2016 Share Posted 21 November , 2016 At the end of the war-dont know when exactly-the Police Gazette issued a supplement to update the boys in blue as to which of their former customers were known to have becmome casualties in the war (inlcudes at least one VC winner). The military researcher Julian Putkowski (Shot at Dawn) and another genealogical writer at one point planned to edit this under the working title of "Fallen Felons" but the project appears a bit dead Would anyone know if the (1919??) supplement is included-it,potentially, is the most useful single chunk of the Police Gazette? quadrangle Posted 21 November , 2016 Share Posted 21 November , 2016 Thanks for alerting this to us Stephen, The police gazette looks complete up to 1918 in BNA. I was able to search this 1917 and 1918 this morning. Cheers

quadrangle Posted 22 November , 2016 Share Posted 22 November , 2016 Hi You would need to register with British Newspapers Archive (BNA) . Currently there is a special on at a pound a month.(I think it is still on ) http://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/ Go to the actual "police gazette" in the newspaper lists. I have traced a lot of family history though these archives. Regards Tony
