Moonraker Posted 17 November , 2016 Share Posted 17 November , 2016 At least eight websites and the like, suggested by Googling "Montello Ridge", though a few may be only passing references. Moonraker

Grom Posted 22 November , 2016 Share Posted 22 November , 2016 Montello is a hill on Western side of Piave, just north of Papadopoli island where British were attacking in Autumn 1918 (Vittorio Veneto offensive). I don't think any of them were on the hill, however. Do you have any more information?
Gareth Davies Posted 22 November , 2016 Share Posted 22 November , 2016 The British (23 and 41 Divs) first deployed to the Montello on 23 Nov 17. The only substantial combat in 1917 was on 30 Dec when the French (on the British left flank) re-took Mount Tomba. In June 18, when the Austrians attacked. the British were up on the Asiago plateau. And in Oct 18 the British attacked across the River Piave to the SE of the Montello feature.
Flondar Posted 22 November , 2016 Share Posted 22 November , 2016 (edited) Norman Gladden, a soldier in 11/Northumberland Fusiliers, left us a nice book with pages about fighting on Asiago plateau and crossing the Piave near Montello in october 1918.
