Guest johnlsmith Posted 16 November , 2016 Share Posted 16 November , 2016 I am looking for information on a great uncle, Henry Howarth. He was invalidated out of the Loyal North Lance because of illness. I have his medal card which gives he was a private in the Labour Corp # 207486. Grateful for any pointers and or information. Many thanks. johnlsmith
John_Hartley Posted 16 November , 2016 Share Posted 16 November , 2016 The main pointer is to the following link. It will tell you how to find any information that may be out there and will also help you understand the jargon and abbreviations thatg you're bound to come across. Good luck. http://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/soldiers/how-to-research-a-soldier/

Mark1959 Posted 17 November , 2016 Share Posted 17 November , 2016 His regimental number in the N Lancs 12737. He was in N Lancs prior to the Lab Corps. From medal rolls looks though there were lots of men from the N Lancs being used by Lab Corps. Has 1914/15 Star as well as War and Victory Medals. Rolls for the star show he was in 7th N Lancs when he embarked for France on 17th July 1915. Also gives discharge date of 14th Feb 1919. you probably have that. The war diary for 7th N Lancs indicates he must have been with main body of the battalion that sailed from a Folkestone to Boulanger on 17/7/15. It is available on Ancestry and by definition can be purchased from the National Archives. The 7th were disbanded in Feb 1918. It may contain some ref to when some wer transferred to the Lab Corps. The 7th was a Service Battalio Difficult to find other records that may be relevant to him without some more personal details: birth, parents, where he lived etc
