corisande Posted 14 November , 2016 Share Posted 14 November , 2016 There seems to have been a group transfer from RDF to MGC Ancestry Medal Roll - click
sotonmate Posted 14 November , 2016 Share Posted 14 November , 2016 (edited) Looking through a fair few pages of MGC medal rolls for this numerical series I don't see any discharge dates pre-Mar 1918, so might it tie in with the period when the MGC made Battalions from Companies at that same time ? IPT Posted 14 November , 2016 Share Posted 14 November , 2016 I'm tending towards prior to October 1917, but struggling to find any surviving papers.
Admin kenf48 Posted 15 November , 2016 Admin Share Posted 15 November , 2016 (edited) This group of men from the RDF were transferred as a consequence of the reorganisation of the Army in early 1918. Where the records survive they were previously in the 8th Bn (or the 9th which amalgamated with the 8th) which was disbanded in February 1918, at least one was a Gallipoli veteran. They were sent to the Base depot on or around the 27th January 1918. Again in the handful of surviving records they seem to have entered or re-entered theatre (France) on various dates in the Spring of 1917. Though we could work out when your man was numbered to the RDF. The transfer date in theatre was the 19th March 1918 'for the benefit of the service'. In the absence of a service record difficult to say which Bn Pte Magee was posted to, where the records survive the men seem to have been dispersed throughout the MG Corps. At least one 74027 only lasted 2 days and was reported missing on the 21st March (the Rolls show at least three kia that day).
