Looking at the service record of William Tranter 426178 Royal Engineers - can anyone tell what this disability is?

Conjunctivitis? Looks a bit more obvious now I've posted it...

On another page it gives this:

Discharge was on 14 December 1918, surplus to requirements having suffered an imapairment. Death was 10 May 1920. Would it be tricky to make a case for him as a non-com?

If you could show a link between the death and the gas poisoning then I suppose you'd have a chance - what does the death cert say ?

No idea, I don't have it. I'm guessing the DC would need to mention the gas poisoning?

It would need to indicate some sort of link to something caused by or attributed to his service. When did he die ?

If his death certificate mentions a respiratory disease, then there's a possibility.

1920 is within the timeframe for getting recognition.

I can't read what the bottom line of the last image says for 'Degree of Disablement'.

Is it     'Nil. No Service.............. "

It says ' Nil No Grounds for award'

As has already been observed without the DC he would not be considered for commemoration by CWGC.

  • 1 month later...

Cause of death was (1) Gas poisoning active service, (2) Acute tuberculosis of lungs & exhaustion.

Now put forward by IFCP.
